Forest in the rain
The total area of Japan is 378,000 square kilometers, of which forests account for approximately two-thirds, or 250,000 square kilometers. The Japanese archipelago, which is long and narrow from north to south and surrounded by the sea, is located in a temperate zone and has four distinct seasons and landscapes colored by those seasons. The seasons change every half month, as indicated by the term “twenty-four solar terms,” and seasonal rains fall at the turning points between seasons, as indicated by the term “one rain at a time.” Rain not only washes away the previous season but also creates a fresh, vibrant new season. This work seeks to capture the beauty of the rain-soaked forests of Japan, where rain carries the rich natural environment and the changing seasons, in a monochrome world.
